Spanish teacher Michele Whaley and students were a part of the podcast Talkin' L2 with BVP this week.

The podcast host is a widely recognized expert on Second Language acquisition and covers topics like acquisition, explicit teaching vs. implicit knowledge, and what communicative teaching and tasks are.

Space Week was a huge success at PNA!  Students got to spend time with Senior Nasa Engineer Su Curley as she told them all about space suit design.

There will be moon rocks, space suits, photo opportunities, demonstrations, a raffle, and fun activities for the kids!

Pacific Northern Academy is in the Anchorage Daily News!

"Students and staff from Pacific Northern Academy walk a recently completed trail that connects Lake Otis Parkway to existing trails at Ruth Arcand Park on Monday. The quarter-mile trail was a project of 10 PNA students who began planning for it in sixth grade and continued working on it through eighth grade. Their goal was to create easier access to Ruth Arcand Park for PNA students as well as Spring Hill Elementary School and Hanshew Middle School students and other community members. The PNA class received a grant from the Anchorage Park Foundation, presented the idea to community councils and gathered public feedback in addition to constructing the trail. "I think we feel pretty accomplished," said Iris Montesano, a PNA alum who worked on the trail and now attends West High."

Students have the opportunity to design in 3D thanks to generous support from local company Alaska 3D Printing!

One student winner will have their design recreated in the software and 3D printed, and copies will be sold at the student store and Craft Fair.  All student designs will have the opportunity to be purchased and printed as many copies as you'd care to send to grandmas and cousins!  

Academic Preschool is hard to find in Anchorage!  Tell your friends, we currently have a couple of openings in our Early Kindergarten class.

All students in the PNA Early Childhood program get the benefit of our full school ethos and offerings.  Spanish, Art, Music and P.E. with practicing professional teachers in addition to Project Based Learning, literacy skills, early math, hands-on MakerSpace experiences, social-emotional and character education are just some of the wonderful benefits that a PNA preschool education boasts.

This issue is big, but how else would we send off the 2016-2017 school year? Thank you to all of you who read our news, share in our adventures, delight in our successes, and have formed a friendship with our little school in Alaska.
