2020 Summer Camps

 

Day Camps

$310 

Our day camps feature a variety of the favorite Create Academy activities each week including, gardening, engineering challenges, art lessons, outdoor ed experiences, games, science experiments and makerspace activities and more.  Group size is limited to ten students and two staff throughout the day.  

Robotics

$310
Two Robotics camps will be offered each week, limited to 10 students per group. (2 session max per student).
LEGO Wedo- Grades K-2
Build robots that spin, push, or respond to sound. Program them with visual drag-and-drop programming software. Design robots to complete simple and challenging tasks like animals that move or a vehicle with sounds and lights. Campers will work individually using Beebots or LEGO Education WeDo kits.
 
LEGO Mindstorms EV3- Grades 3-6

Build robotic machines or robots that spin, push, or respond to touch or sound. Program them with visual drag-and-drop programming software. Design robots to complete simple and challenging tasks like animals that move or a vehicle with sounds and lights.  Use sensors to guide a robot through a maze. Each student will work individually using a LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 kit.

Summer Tech Camp

Create Academy is excited to offer fun and exciting technology programs from CodeREV, a nationally recognized summer camp and afterschool program based out of California.  Tech class are limited to 15 students and feature an in-depth study of the topic.  They do not include outdoor ed or creative arts classes however they do include snack/lunch breaks and recess/choice time.

Minecraft Level Design & Engineering- Grades 1-5 
$500

CodeREV's most popular class for this age group. Students learn the ins and outs of level design and game design while learning to engineer in Minecraft using RedStone. Students even learn basic code commands too! This class offers thrills AND education alike as students explore their inner Da Vinci in a STEM format perfect for Minecraft lovers! Curriculum developed by CodeREV.

 

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate- activities adapted toward the skill level of the participant. Typing experience helpful.

It’s full STEAM ahead at Create Academy— the place where science, art, and technology collide with a whole lot of creativity. Immerse yourself in the creative process and learn new skills to take your creations to a whole new level. Start the day by asking, “What problem will I solve, what challenge will I overcome, what question will I ask today?” Develop an innovative solution to tackle a real world challenge. Let your inner inventor shine during creative time with Makerspace materials.

 

Each day campers will: 

  • Tinker/Investigate 

  • Design, create and invent

  • Experiment with art

  • Explore nature 

  • Play games

  • Have fun!

Create Academy Basics: 

  • Week-long camps from June 8-August 7, 2020

  • NEW- 4 day camp the week of July 4th

  • Grades K-6 each week

  • NEW- CodeREV Tech Camp

  • Weekly grouping differentiated by age/skill level

  • 10 students maximum per group

  • Hours: 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

  • Extended care between the hours of 7:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Before you begin registration please gather the following:

NOTE: Once you begin the registration process, you will be allowed to save the information and go back to it at a later date, however registration is not complete until payment has been received. 

We have a new system- all campers will need to CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT.

COVID-19 Safety Precautions

In order to provide a fun experience and a safe environment for campers and staff, significant changes have to take place in order to meet the latest mandates.​  A full guide to our updated practice will be available to parents two weeks prior to the start of camp. 

 

The following list is a brief overview of some of the practices we will be putting into place:

  • Reduced group size

  • Groups will be assigned specific areas within the school building and outdoors to minimize areas of cross contamination

  • Social Distancing will be practiced 

  • Games and activities will be redesigned to avoid close contact between students

  • Cloth masks will be worn by staff and campers

  • Art and Outdoor Ed activities will take place in each groups’ assigned classroom or outdoors

  • Increased hand washing and sanitizing of frequently touched surfaces

  • Supplies will be distributed to individual students; community supplies sanitized between use

  • Drop off and pick up times will scheduled and structured arrival/departure procedures will utilized

  • Increased health screenings weekly and daily for staff and campers

 2020 CAMP UPDATES

  • ​Face masks are REQUIRED for all campers unless a health condition prevents them from wearing one.

  • ​Campers should be prepared to wear their face mask upon arrival to camp.

  • Please mark masks with campers name.

Interstate travel mandates have changed in Alaska and in an attempt to mitigate any occurences of COVID-19 and to keep our staff and campers safe, we require the following in regards to anyone living or staying in your household who has recently traveled:
